increasing the efficiency of water use is one of the main topics of sustainable agriculture in arid and semi-arid. the use of some materials such as superabsorbent polymers increase water storage in the soil and thus reduce the water use. increase water storage in the soil to reduce the effects of drought and saline soil. in order to evaluate the effect of super absorbent polymer on survival and growth characteristics of palm, an experiment was carried out in split plot based on randomized completely block design (rcbd) with three replications in ahvaz during 2011-2012. experiment comprised a following treatment combination irrigation based on 60, 80 and 100 percent class a pan in main plots, superabsorbent in four rates (0, 40, 80 and 120 g for each offshoot) in subplot. the results showed that water stress and superabsorbent did not significant effect on the surviving. the water use 100 percent with 40 grams and 80 percent of water use with 120 grams of superabsorbent produced the highest and lowest number of leaves prospectively. the lowest number of leaves on the provision of treatment was. the most and lowest trunk perimeter produced in the treatment of water use 100% without superabsorbent and 80% of water use with 120 grams of superabsorbent, respectively. the water use 100% with 120 grams and 60% of water use without superabsorbent caused the maximum and minimum plant height, respectively
